Imperial Wharf Marina completes major expansion, becoming the largest privately owned mooring in central London
A kilometre of moorings on the River Thames in Chelsea and Fulham brings much-needed capacity to central London’s river, following its opening in August 2026.
Imperial Wharf Marina, the non-residential mooring facility on the River Thames between Chelsea and Fulham, has completed a significant expansion of its site, adding more than 500 metres of new mooring space.
The extension brings the marina’s total mooring space to over a kilometre, making Imperial Wharf Marina the largest privately owned mooring facility in central London and reinforcing its position as the capital’s leading tidal mooring destination.
Applications are now being taken from boat owners looking to use the expanded facility. Boat owners moored at Imperial Wharf Marina benefit from electricity and water supplies, 24-hour security with CCTV and regular patrols, with the support of a resident Pier Master based on site.
A landmark investment for London boat owners and the river community

Supporting the local community and river activity
Beyond additional mooring capacity, the expanded marina supports wider river activity in the area. Imperial Wharf Marina’s pier is available for use by cutters taking part in traditional Thames rowing events, and is suitable for use as a film and TV location.
Imperial Wharf Marina’s location also makes it an ideal stopover for vessels cruising through the capital — whether arriving from the Upper Reach for a stopover, or transiting London en route further west. Visitor moorings are available for charter boats and other commercial activity, by application.
The marina’s location between Chelsea and Fulham, close to Imperial Wharf Overground station and a short walk from the King’s Road, means the additional footfall from berth holders and visitors is expected to benefit local restaurants, shops and other businesses in the surrounding area.
About Imperial Wharf Marina
Imperial Wharf Marina opened in 2011. It was built by a consortium of experienced river professionals on the Upper Reaches of the River Thames, located in front of the Imperial Wharf development between Chelsea and Fulham in London.
Royal Events
In 2012, the marina played a role in the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s 60 years on the throne, serving as the departure point for Gloriana, The Queen’s Rowbarge, at the head of the Pageant. The marina also supported the Platinum Jubilee Pageant held in 2022, marking the 70th and final anniversary of the accession of Queen Elisabeth II in 1952.
